Replaced and Rehomed

A study outlined in Christian Cotroneo article sets out to find reasons pets get rehomed. According to the study one million people have rehomed their pets in the last year. Major reason? Economics. Sadly there are situations where the choice is between feeding your children or paying for your pets medical care. This is why it is so important to be educated on being a responsible owner. Part of Cotroneo’s article showed that the group most likely to rehome their pets had an income below $50,000. During times of financial hardship and stress is when owning a pet is hard.

Landlords are also seen as contributors to rehoming. The pets are being forced out of their home and something needs to be done. Suggestions from Cotroneo were to allow more pets in low-income housing and help people with their expenses.

The shelters should be a resource when problems arise. They also have work to do on providing workshops and lectures. But overall shelters should, “come to symbolize a first resource, not just the final solution”(Tuber et al. 384).

With that being said, please go to your nearest shelter and think about how your able to help.
